Napoli picked up a glorious 4-1 away victory over Lazio Wednesday evening. This victory was a special one as Napoli have won their first five league matches since the 1987-88 season and have tallied up ten consecutive wins in Serie A. Sarri’s players have officially redeemed themselves after a loss to Shakthar exactly a week ago making this a big character win for the Partenopei.
Reina (6.5)– Made some key saves in the first half when Napoli was caught on their heels but received a yellow card for an overly agressive challenge rushing outside the box when it was still 0-0 even though he managed to get most of the ball. Had no chance at stopping Stefan Vrij’s lethal volley in the 29th minute as it was quickly stuck inside the box. Always going to be a difficult to save.
Maggio (6.5)– Was not involved that much in the buildup plays but stood his ground defensively and made some smart passes when under pressure.
Albiol (6.5)- Got caught on his heels at times but generally did a good job leading the defense and helping Koulibaly keep Immobile off the scoresheet.
Koulibaly (7.5)- Played solid defensively with a strong physical presence winning the majority of challenges and preventing Immobile from registering a shot on goal. He scored in the 55th minute off a rebound from a corner kick to tie the match and start the comeback.
Ghoulam (7)– Played solid defensive game and contributed offensively by sending plenty of menacing long balls to Napoli forwards throughout the match.
Allan (6.75)- Showed great intensity throughout the match but looked uncomfortable at times due to fatigue logging full-time minutes from the previous Champions League fixture and Sunday’s win against Benevento.
Jorginho (7)– Kept possession well in the midfield throughout the match. Scored a penalty in the 90th minute +2 in injury time to make it 4-1.
Hamsik (6)– Did not get involved offensively in the first half and sat back too much. His fatigue was obvious in the 73 minutes he played. However, his play improved in the second half and played a beautiful one-two pass assisting Callejon’s goal in the second half making it 2-1.
Callejon (6.9)– Had a couple of scoring chances but struggled find back of the net. He scored in the 56th minute to make it 2-1 finishing off a one two play with Hamsik. However, was not that effective beyond his goal.
Insigne (7)– Created many beautiful attacking link up plays with Mertens and Callejon. Maintained his form well throughout the match not only offensively but was reliable tracking back on defense. Almost scored on a beautiful cross by Rog that found his head but sailed over the bar.
Mertens (7.5)– Had a slow start to the game. Found his legs and played much better in the second half creating more offensive threats in front of goal. Scored an absolute stunner in the 59th minute that was a beautiful chip shot outside the box catching Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha off his line.
Zielinski (6.75)– Replaced Hamsik in the 73rd minute and improved the midfield. He retained critical possession and made smart choices with the ball at his feet.
Milik (6)- Replaced Mertens in the 81st minute. Helped to kill time off the clock and drew a penalty that widened Napoli’s victory to 4-1.
Rog (6.5) – Replaced Callejon in the 88th minute. Made a dangerously nice cross from the right flank to insigne creating another scoring opportunity that almost found its way through.
