Reina (6.5): A comfortable game for the Spaniard as Nice found themselves struggling for chances.
Hysaj (7): As the defence became more and more comfortable in their position he crept further and further down the line, getting himself into great positions deep down the right flank.
Koulibaly (7.5): A performance many fans were praying to see this evening, comfortably quashing a dangerous Nice attack.
Albiol (7): Sat comfortably alongside Koulibaly and behind the solid midfield, engaged mainly in distribution and positioning himself for a passing option.
Ghoulam (7): A welcome return to the quick link up play with Insigne that looked a bit rusty after the break, however still able to provide a constantly threatening presence deep down the left flank.
Hamsik (7): Provided a strength and mobility in the midfield that really compliments Sarri’s style of play, always appearing as an option for the short pass before flying forward and joining in with the attack.
Jorginho (7.5): A rare goal from the spot for the midfield maestro topped off an excellent night for the lad. Excellent distribution and key in forming a brick wall that kept Nice planted in their own half for a majority of the game.
Allan (6.5): A feisty performance as always from the little Brazilian, a real compliment to the varying playing styles of his midfield partners, however found himself drifting forward later in the game to provide some much needed pressure for a highly sought after third goal.
Callejon (7): Great positional play in searching for that cheeky lob over the top, providing a couple of great chances, most devastatingly an absolute sitter that Milik just could not put away.
Mertens (8.5): There’s a reason he’s found his way onto everyone’s fantasy football squads, this man has proven himself, thus far, that he’s more than a one season wonder. Finished a lovely ball by Insigne after rounding the keeper before being taken out by a reckless challenge on one of his many darts into the box, winning the penalty for a crucial second goal.
Insigne (8): The goalkeeper’s worst nightmare for a majority of the game, popping away low shots into the corners of his goal, however unable to actually find the back of the net. Provided a lovely ball for Mertens’ first goal as well as creating a quality build up play for Mertens’ penalty call.
Zielinski (6.5): Came on quite early for Hamsik and made some solid runs into Nice’s territory, forever hovering outside the Nice penalty area as the pressure mounted late in the game.
Milik (6): Came on with a noticeable hunger for the ball, but Nice’s intense defensive structure following the two sending offs really suppressed the attacker’s deadly search for space. Took his eye off the ball for a moment and managed to miss what would have been a guaranteed third goal after a great ball from Callejon.
Rog (N/A): A late substitution, provided the usual ball-winning mentality we’ve come to love.
