Napoli youngster Marko Rog didn’t see a great deal of action this year but he did seem to work his way into Maurizio Sarri’s good favors as the year went on. Toward the end of the season, he started to contribute off the bench on a more consistent basis and also had some important starts like against Juventus in Turin and Roma in Rome; putting in solid performances and proving he has the personality to handle big matches in hostile environments.
He spoke to Croatian media and left the following statements reviewing the season that just passed and looking toward the one to come:
I’m happy with my first year in Italy with Napoli. The first year in Serie A is difficult for everyone but next year I’m sure will be even better. I’m optimistic. I hope we can duplicate the results of this year if not better them.
Few doubt that Marko has the talent to contribute a significant hand to the Napoli cause next year and many will be rooting for him to see more regular action. With Rog, Zielinski, and Diawara fully integrated at this point, Sarri will not have a shortage of options for his midfield and it will be interesting to see how he manages playing time for all 6 players.
