Pescara Vs Napoli & Season Preview

It’s finally here! Our beloved Napoli is back in action as they travel away to take on Pescara. Between Euros, Copa America and the Olympics we’ve had a decent amount of entertainment this summer but there is nothing quite like watching our boys in blue! The Azzurri are coming off some wonderful preseason form and will hope to continue the good run when the season starts on Sunday.

Jorginho will be suspended so I think its likely Valdifiori starts in the center of the pitch. He’s been doing well this preseason and is the natural substitute here. The Jorginho suspension may be another reason why Mirko is still on the team at the moment. I would not however rule out a move away sometime before the transfer window closes.

I also think Mertens has a good shot at starting as he’s performed well in the preseason and seems to have the advantage over Insigne. Many called for Dries to get more playing time last year. Sarri could reward him with the start here.

Upfront I am fairly confident the start will go to Gabbiadini. Sarri hasn’t had much time to work with Milik and will most likely want to play it safe starting Manolo up front. Manolo has had a great preseason and seems really determined to prove his worth.

With all the stress this summer over “the betrayal” and the constant rumors surrounding our players it’s nice to get back to the pitch. The players look motivated to put the summer drama behind them as well and hopefully will be out there to prove a point.

Overall there seems to be a lot to be excited about this year. The core of the team has had a full year under Sarri now and we’ve seen them continue to implement and improve on his beautiful style of play. The team has acquired some much needed depth and we have some very highly rated youngsters coming into the squad. It will be difficult to keep pace with the dark force in black and white but with a well coached, talented and hardworking team anything can happen! I’m pumped up and can’t wait to be screaming at the television come Sunday! How about you?
